November 12 Time flies............I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted here. How time flies when you're having fun! I have been so busy learning these programs that it has really limited my spare time. But I love it! I'm looking into several classes for the next semester; but not sure yet if it will work out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, although it is hard to type with crossed fingers! :-) Thanksgiving is right around the corner. My son is having dinner at his place this year, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to make a desert, and maybe a jello salad with cranberries and mandarin oranges. I've asked for the turkey bones so I can make a turkey rice soup. I love to have it on hand when I don't feel like cooking or am feeling a little under the weather...just as good as chicken soup. It was such a beautiful day today. I walked to the library and happened upon the Veterans Day Parade. I hadn't even heard there was one. It was very small, very few people out there, so I guess I wasn't the only one who hadn't heard about it. I found it sad that it was so ignored considering all that our Veterans have done for us. I remember how bad it was with our returning soldiers during the Vietnam war, and no matter what my politics are, I believe we must always support our troops. War is such a political machine these days and our young men and women are the ones that truly pay the price. I noticed last night that a couple of my pictures are not showing on the blog entry's. I'm not sure what happened, I will have to see if I can figure it out. I found that if I right click on the dreaded red X I can open it from there. Well, hopefully I will get it straightened out. :-) I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I'm going to have my lively grandson with me today, so I better take some vitamins to keep up with him...LOL I'll catch up with you all later. Tacey October 15 Changing LeavesOk..I couldn't resist after seeing it on Meg's Blog. Maybe I should have tried again?! Tacey
Classes and PlayWhat a busy week I had. Classes started, and I'm learning Photoshop and Illustrator and on a MAC...what a hoot. As I was late in starting this class, they had gone through the basics of Photoshop, so I'm doing that one mainly on my own. Finding my way around the program, and just soooo happy when I can make something work...LOL! I'm enjoying this a lot even if I am pulling my hair out. When I'm bald, it will all be worth it. :-) Having worked on a PC for so many years, it is just a tad difficult to figure out the MAC..but I love it! I am finding some things so much easier than a PC...for instance downloading supplies to work with for lessons, the MAC just unzips everything! I don't need several different programs to unzip the different forms of zip files that are used. I know my son is a confirmed MAC user and has always loved it. He is a graphic designer and has tried to get me to use one for years. The school has the new MACS and they are nice. My grandson was here overnight Friday and we played with Grandma's pillows making tunnels for his "train" (made from blocks) to go under and Saturday we went into the park and played in the grass, blew on some dandelions, petted some dogs and enjoyed the sunshine. I had as much fun as he did. It's wonderful to have a 2 1/2 year old around to remind me what fun there is in the little things that we tend to forget in our daily lives. Now if only I could bottle some of that energy! :-) Last night I had some friends over for dinner and tried a couple of new recipes and they were terrific! I got them from Beth Marie's Live Space and the link is here Recipes. I tried the Fall Cobbler and the Hawaiian chicken. Both were wonderful and enjoyed by everyone! I hope everyone has a wonderful day! I'm going to be studying today and getting ready for class tomorrow. I'll talk to you all later. Tacey October 05 Back to School
I will be starting classes next week at a local college here, two days a week. It's for learning PhotoshopCS3, which includes Illustrator and inDesign. I'm starting the class late, but I'm really looking forward to it. There is a new course for graphics starting in January, and they don't have it set up yet, so I should have the details at the end of October. I'm excited and hoping for a new career start! I have done nothing in Photoshop, having used Paint Shop Pro for the past 6 years; so it should be interesting, as well as frustrating when I automatically try to do something that I learn in PSP but won't work in Photoshop. When I was a travel consultant and we changed computer systems your hands automatically went to the format that you were used to...then oops! It didn't work. Frustrating, but a good challenge. :-) The Blue Angels are here this weekend for Fleet Week. I love to watch them perform, they are just magnificent. Noisy they may be, but I still enjoy every moment. It's a 3 day weekend for some, so I hope you have a fun and restful weekend. This graphic is one I did from a tutorial. If you would like to try it, here is the link:CreaBarbouille She has some lovely tutorials for Paint Shop Pro. Tacey
October 03 Children's Health Care Bill Vetoed!
I can't believe the President vetoed the health care bill for our children! He keeps talking about socialized medicine. I don't understand that at all, since he is a recipient of what I would call socialized medicine. His health care, along with the Congress and the Senate is 72% PAID FOR by OUR taxes! Wouldn't it be nice to have YOUR taxes go toward paying 72% of YOUR health care? We all deserve the same access to health care that our government officials get. Why don't we have it? If subsidized health care is good enough for our elected officials, then it certainly is good enough for us. Such disregard for our children is incomprehensible. It is intolerable. It's unacceptable. They are the most vulnerable, and we can no longer ignore that we have a health care crisis in this country. The cost of health care is astronomical and many families can not afford private health care any more, even when both parents work. It is time for changes in our thinking and our attitudes. What do you think? How do you feel about it?
Tacey October 02 A little of everything.......I went to my son's home last night to celebrate his birthday with everyone. Chocolate cake and ice cream...I love it! :-) It was a lot of fun and good conversation. He had been to Las Vegas last week, and since we had lived there it was interesting to hear of all the changes. I haven't been back for several years now as most of my friends have moved out. It is expanding at a fast rate and I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I prefer smaller cities and cooler weather. I have been hearing and reading a lot about the Child's Health Care Bill, and health care in general for everyone. It is time for a change in our country. Everyone deserves health care and there are too many people that don't have any. The cost for health care is prohibitive for a good share of the population here, and it is unthinkable to me that the president would veto this health care bill for children. I know there is no perfect answer, but our system right now is really broken. I'll catch you all later. Tacey September 29 Uploaded some of my blendsGood morning. I uploaded some of the blends I have done using PSP. It is one of my favorite things to do in graphics, and I hope you enjoy viewing them.
I have been taking care of my grandson this week while his dad was out of town. He goes home today...I think Grandma will take a nap! If only we could bottle that energy.
Catch you later.
Tacey September 28 A little about meI started this quite a while ago, but never got around to doing anything with it. It's time to start.
I live in Northern California and am semi-retired. I was a travel consultant for over 20 years, but with industry changes and 9-11, I found myself out of work about 4 years ago. I found out that finding a job in your 60's is not easy, and have been doing mainly part time sales work for the past 3 years or so. The store I was working at closed at the end of July so I decided it was time to look into some training for a new career. If your 60's are the new 40's, then that shouldn't be a problem at all, should it?
I'm also a proud grandmother of a wonderful 2 1/2 year old little boy who is a delight. My son is a single father and I'm so proud of the job he is doing with his son. He was only 2 months old when he came into our lives, and he is such a blessing and joy to us all.
I enjoy doing graphics and playing with photos using Paint Shop Pro. I'll be uploading some of my work soon. I also love to read, listen to music, taking pictures, walking and just enjoying life.
I'll be talking to you again soon.
